Over the past few years, the green has been threatened by the potential expansion of the gas station at the southwestern edge into a mini-mart/gas station. However, because the green and surrounding streetscape is protected by the Village Center Zone, an ordinance created to safeguard its historic character, repeated expansion attempts have been unsuccessful. Such expansion would not only increase the traffic in an area already over burdened with activity, but increase the size of the lot, thereby inviting larger buildings in the future.
