The Original Town Green
|
|
Wethersfield's original town green is a small triangular-shaped traffic island at the intersection of Main and Marsh Streets. On it is a flagpole, a stone bench and a boulder with a bronze plaque dedicated to the original proprietors of Wethersfield. Across Marsh Street to the north stands the Congregational Church (1761-1764), the dominant feature of the intersection. Other buildings at the wide intersection include the Standish House (1787); now a restaurant), an early 20th century commercial block, and a Masonic Hall (1922). The rest of the buildings in the immediate neighborhood are residential, many dating from the 18th century.
