Stafford Green

The Stafford Green is composed of two long strips of rolling land located on both sides of Stafford Street from State Route 190 to Hydeville Road. Furnace Hollow Road, Collette Road, Goodell Road, Crooked Road, and RFD Road all intersect with the green and Stafford Green. A rubble stone wall delineates the eastern boundary of the green for most of its length. In some areas dense vegetation covers the green, and in other areas it is open field. In one instance, a landowner has illegally fenced in the portion of the green that abuts his property.

Residences front both sides of the green for its entire length, giving the appearance of homes with very large front yards. Homes adjoining the green are from the 19th and 20th centuries. Newer homes are located predominantly toward the south end.

Although traffic is light on Stafford Street, the absence of sidewalks and the sections of dense vegetation make pedestrian use of the green difficult. The green does remain intact as open space, although private/public boundaries are not always easily discernible.
