Surrounded by State Route 138, Bethel Road, and Browning Road, this small greensward is overwhelmed by vehicular traffic. State Route 138 is a busy highway and it is easy to overlook the green when speeding by. Those who do take a closer look will find the Lester Fountain in the center of the green. It consists of an Ionic column set on a square base and topped by a sphere. A basin flanks the shaft. At one time, water flowed from a lion's head (now missing) in the base. The fountain is constructed of Westerly granite. On the die of the shaft is the following inscription. PRESENTED TO THE TOWN OF GRISWOLD/OCTOBER 1903/By/MARY ELIZABETH LESTER/IN MEMORY OF HER FATHER/ANDREW LESTER/AND HER BROTHER/CHARLES SUMNER LESTER.
The area behind the fountain, adjoining a residential property, is heavily planted with a mix of evergreen and deciduous plant material. A wooden flagpole is between the plantings and the fountain. A Griswold historic marker stands near the center. Several utility poles are grouped at the east end of the green, distracting from any ambience created by the fountain.
Facing the green on Browning Road are two one-story bungalows. Across State Route 138 is a pre-1850 Adams-style residence. Before the construction of State Route 138, the house fronted the green. Behind the green, contiguous with it, is a pre-1900 vernacular residence. The only commercial building visible from the green is a one-story structure at the corner of Bethel Road and State Route 138. A blacksmith's shop occupied the site at one time.
