The Northford Green is triangular in shape and lies on a hill at the designated center of Northford and gently slopes to the east. On the east is Middletown Avenue. Clintonville Road on the north and Old Post Road on the west are one-way streets, moving counter-clockwise. The southern-most corner is cut off by a short cross road allowing motor vehicles to make a left turn on Middletown Avenue.
The green is used for biennial Memorial Day celebrations. A parade, beginning at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, travels north on Forest Road to Middletown Avenue and around the green where it disbands. A portable bandstand is erected for the occasion. A Christmas creche is set up on the Green in December by the Knights of Columbus.
The green is triangular in shape and situated on a hill in the center of Northford and gently slopes to the east. At the southern-most corner is a small triangular piece of land created by a cross road allowing motor vehicles to make a left turn onto Middletown Avenue. Clintonville Road on the north side and Old Post Road on the west are one-way streets, moving counter-clockwise.
The green is an open expanse shaded by three sugar maples, a large Norway Spruce and a tulip tree. Other plantings include bayberry, rugosa rose and juniper shrubs. In the center is a flagpole. A granite block placed on the green in 1920 serves as a monument to those from Northford who served in America's wars. No paths exist on the green. Asphalt and concrete curbing is located along its edges.
The green is the center of a small crossroads community dominated by the Congregational Church situated on a rise to the north. The buildings along the Clintonville Road and the Old Post Road (Route 17) are 18th and 19th century residential buildings with their historic integrity intact. To the west along Middletown Avenue are commercial structures most of them dating from the 20th century, although among them stands the old Northford store built c. 1870. These newer buildings are set back on the lots and provide ample space for parking, leaving the eastern side of the green exposed.
