The green is a grassy slope surrounded by town-owned land primarily in the form of parking lots, except for a two-story commercial block to the north. The police parking lot is to the east, and Taylor parking lot (for Taylor Place, the commercial establishment to the north) is to the west. The north and south sides are bounded by Jessup Road and an unnamed access road for the town buses, which come sweeping down to the parking lot in front of the library. The large modern Westport Public Library is the dominant feature of the landscape, but it is oriented toward the Saugatuck River, not the green.
The Police Station is located on the east side of the green at the top of a slope but separated from the green by the parking lot. The commercial buildings on the north provide the only edge to the green. Otherwise, it is a green space in a sea of parking lots dominated by the new library.
The open space itself is a very rough rectangle that slopes up away from the river toward the east. It was originally part of the gardens for the Godillot Estate and a few trees represent that period. The trees are planted mainly around the exterior in a random fashion and include a large pine, spruce, cedar and some young maple trees. There are no paths but it is surrounded by curbs. It is used for passive recreation and as a bus stop area. There is some street lighting, benches, and a flagpole at the southwest end.
