Civil War Memorial Park is a small triangular public green at the point formed by the junction of Main Street (Route 44) and Undermountain Road. It is contiguous with the lawns of the White Hart Inn and is maintained by the Inn. The town owns about .2 acres of the green where a Civil War monument is located. The Inn owns the remainder.
The focal point of the green and its raison d'etre is the large Civil War monument located at its center. Large bronze figure of columbia with one foot placed on broken shackles stands on top a rusticated granite pedestal rising in several stages. The lower portion of the pedestal is penetrated by four pseudo cannons. Annual flowers are placed around the base of the monument. There is a flagpole just south of the monument and a linden tree near the flagpole.
The point where the streets come together is cluttered with road signs, a Rotary Club sign and a large pole for an overhead street light. The adjacent White Hart Inn lawns are planted with only a few trees and shrubs along the borders and are used often for events of the Inn. The Inn maintains the lawn and the Chamber of Commerce plants the flowers around the monument. The town is responsible for maintaining the monument.
The buildings along Route 44 and Undermountain Road are primarily 19th century residences, some of which have been converted to commercial use. Across from the green on Route on Undermountain Road is a brick ambulance building (c. 1920). The buildings along these two streets, while framing the green, do not particularly relate to it.
